How to write a LinkedIn headline recruiters notice
Your headline appears next to your name almost everywhere on LinkedIn — in search results, comments and connection requests. It's one of the first things a recruiter reads, so it's worth more than just your current job title.
What a strong headline includes
Most good headlines combine a few of these:
- The role you do or want, in the words recruiters search for
- Your specialism or sector
- A short note of the value you bring or the results you deliver
- Key skills or qualifications, such as chartered status
Examples of the pattern
Instead of 'Marketing Manager at Acme', try 'Marketing Manager | B2B brand and content | Growing pipeline for UK tech firms'. Instead of 'Looking for opportunities', name the role: 'Graduate Data Analyst | SQL, Python, Power BI'.
Keep it honest and readable
Avoid buzzwords like 'guru' or 'ninja', and don't stuff in every keyword you can think of. A headline should read naturally to a person as well as to LinkedIn search.
